Picking Bridesmaid Dresses That Make Everyone Happy

Dress shopping with all of your favorite gal pals may sound like fun, but there is a lot more work that goes into it than you may think. Finding a dress that everyone loves and feels comfortable in can be very difficult. Below I have compiled a list of tips to keep in mind when trying to pick out the perfect dresses for some of the most important people in your life.

  1. Find out what doesn’t work

Before you start looking at options, ask all of your bridesmaids if there is anything they absolutely will not wear. This will give them a say on what they absolutely do not want or what they do not feel comfortable in. It will be much easier to avoid these dresses from the beginning instead of finding out after you have picked out the dress.

  1. Get Inspired!

Create a board of looks that you really like. This could be a Pinterest board, or a physical board that you put together. Make sure your dress is on there so you can see how potential Bridesmaid dresses would look next to yours! After you have created this board, you can share it with the bridesmaids to get some feedback

      3. Make sure you leave enough time

Picking out dresses is a lengthy process! It is recommended that you start 6 – 8 months in advance to make sure that everything is set by your wedding day. Even though that may seem like a very long time, it is important to remember that dresses have to be ordered and altered in most cases. That process takes time.  It’s better the dress comes early rather than late!

      4. Consider the Cost

When looking at different options for dresses, it is important to take into consideration the cost of the dress. You may want the most beautiful high end dress, but your bridesmaids may not be able to afford them. To help cut some cost, you could suggest rental dresses. This could allow you to pick out designer brands at an affordable price. Also, your bridesmaids wont be stuck with a dress that they will never wear again.

      5. Give Options

Every girl is built differently meaning that the same style will not always look good on everyone. To make sure each girl feels comfortable on your big day, give them options with the dresses. If they can’t agree on one style, consider letting them wear different style dresses. If you pick the color and designer, let them pick the style that looks best on them. If you are nervous about letting them pick they dress out, let them pick 5 and then from the 5, you pick out your favorite. That allows you to get the look you want while your bridesmaids can feel comfortable and beautiful in their dresses.

     6. Pick colors that match

Picking the color of the bridesmaid dresses might be the hardest part in the selection process. When picking the color of the dresses, there are three important factors you should consider. This includes the season, venue/theme and complexion of your bridesmaids. Dark jewel colors are better suited for the fall, while pastels and brighter colors look better in the spring and summer. When it comes to the venue, make sure the color compliments the surroundings. Finally, when picking a color, make sure it compliments your bridesmaids skin tones. If you can’t find a color for everyone, consider picking out a color and then letting them pick the shade that suits them best. Mismatched dresses are all the rage right now.

     7. Don’t be a push-over

Remember that it is YOUR day! You should listen to their suggestions and concerns, but don’t let them push you away from your vision of what you want.

Be confident that your memories will be captured perfectly
