About the Venue
The District 5 Schoolhouse, in Zeeland MI!! It was a perfect setting that was perfect with our DIY wedding. The schoolhouse is timeless with so many extras. We were able to bring in our own food, bar, etc we were not limited to what the vendor offered, which was important for us to personalize our perfect day.
About the Dress
I had two perfectly perfect dresses. I bought my dress the day before booking our hall. It is a gorgeous poofy, cream colored, sweetheart neckline dress, with rouching in the bodice. I had a gorgeous belt with pearls and beading on it. My second dress was a full lace mermaid style dress, also with a sweetheart neckline, that I transferred my belt from my first dress to. I would not have changed my mind about having two dresses, even if I didn’t get good deals on either dress like I did at Davids Bridal.
About our traditions/fun activities
Our day was laid back and classy. We didn’t do the typical unity ceremony, we did a paint ceremony so we could include our kids in something that might actually be fun for them. We also had corn hole, ladder ball, a camp fire complete with a s’mores bar. At the reception we played the shoe game, which I believe was not only fun for us but also our guests.
About working with Brenda Hoffman Photography
Perfect from the second we met. Months before we got engaged I had Facebook stalked her and knew that if we ever got married that she would be my dream photographer. We met before our engagement session, me thinking the entire time that we didn’t have it in our budget. My husband saw her work and knew how badly I wanted this. His words couldn’t have been more perfect “The only thing we will have left after the day is done, is the pictures. We will bend our budget elsewhere if need be” and he was totally right. Everything turned out perfect and working with Brenda was amazing, she knew what I wanted and she stuck to that and made me feel like I was the most important person on that day!! She truly was amazing and even gave me advice as the day went on. The couple of things that happened outside of my planning, it wasn’t even two seconds after my finding out and she was right there to say “at the end of the day, no matter what happens, you will be married”!!
Most memorable moments
The entire day!! Our first look at each other, our first kiss, our kids and my special moments, dancing the night away!! Everything was perfect and Brenda was right, at the end of the day, no matter what didn’t go as planned, we were married and the day was the most amazing experience ever!!
Advice for other couples
Take time to soak in the day. It goes by so fast and the best thing I can say I did was disappear every now and then with different people and just soak in the day. Especially the 15-20 minutes my husband and I snuck away. It truly made the day perfect and reminded us why the day was so special to us.
Vendors:
Wonderful hosts and a great venue! The historic schoolhouse is versatile for many weddings!
The food was yummy (and hot – which cannot be taken for granted) and staff was very attentive.
Never disappoints! The cakepops are my favorite but the cake itself was yummy, too…of course! Ryke’s Rocks!
The dance floor was full the entire night which is always a good sign! Their team was very communicative and accommodating which made the night go smoothly!
